Smartboard display ratio and pen Alignment issues
Laptops that were distributed around 2026 have a screen that is taller than a normal screen. This feature is very convenient when using the laptop, as it affords greater vertical space, but can cause black bars (pillarboxing) and pen misalignment when connected to a smartboard. Fortunately, the fix is pretty easy.
Instructions
Connect to the smartboard in a classroom via the USB-C docking station. Ensure that you are configured to duplicate the screen.
Find an empty spot of your desktop. Right-click in that empty spot and choose display settings
Scroll down to display resolution. Select the dropdown and choose 1920x1080
The laptop and smartboard screens will blink for a moment. After it stops blinking, the smartboard should no longer have the pillarboxes, and touch/pen alignment should be correct. The laptop screen will now have letterboxing at the top and bottom of the screen.
Once you disconnect from the smartboard docking station, the laptop should return to its original resolution, restoring the laptop screen to full-screen.
